Three Scorching Reasons to Read Hot Mess

Hot Mess - Broken Heart?

What? I’ve only just got around to reading Hot Mess, by that witty, talented Lucy Vine? Me, late to the party? Hell, I’m just glad I managed to arrive!

I don’t know about you, but having a child has got me into some kind of a crazy life backlog. Some might say I’m a veritable hot mess.

Yep, that’s right. I’m behind with the feather dusting, I’ve no idea what the fashion is these days, and my stockpile of books to read? Dude, you don’t want to know.

So apologies for rocking up with a book review for a novel that’s been cracking people up for longer than my toddler, but, you know. That’s mumming. (AKA handing your life over to the Borg.)

Whilst my friends were raving about the genius publication that is Hot Mess, I was knee deep in icky green nappies, and trying to remember what the insides of my eyelids looked like.

Five Hot Tips for Writing Inspiration

Hot tips for writing inspiration

Ooh, I’ve got a hottie for you this week. Not only am I sharing my own little quirks for finding writing inspiration, I have drafted in more sassy writers from my sparkling new Facebook group Chick Lit and Prosecco, to share their precious secrets.

More about the group and these sizzling writers later, but if you haven’t joined the group yet, get on over there! We want you.

More About this Writing Inspiration

Aha, so writing inspiration; I had always assumed it was a given. But from hanging out in the virtual world of bloggers, I was surprised to learn this: there are two types of writer. The type that cannot stop thinking of ideas and will never have enough hours to write them all down. And the sort who live in a perpetual panic as to where the next snippet of writing inspiration is flipping well hiding.

Could there also be a hybrid? A being who bounces between the extremes, depending on what life throws at them? If you are one of these in-betweenies, please tell! Maybe this happy medium is in fact where sanity lies. Hmm, now there’s a thought…

Writing Inspiration – Too Much or Not Enough?

Anyway, I am of the too many ideas ilk. I’m bombarded by these little inklings day and night. I can scarcely take a peaceful shower without my muse jumping in with a back scrubber and shouting, “but what about this?” (Yes, bugger off, fella. You can see I haven’t brought my quill.)

And then there’s the sort who struggle for writing inspiration. They have deadlines lurking, but those words are often shirking. Ideas evade them, running for the hills like naughty badgers in the night. You may see these poor writers dancing through the streets with coloured nets, trying to catch their next whimsical notion before it bobs away on a breeze.

I’m sure those pesky ideas are in here somewhere…

Writing Inspiration – Where Art Thou?

So all of this got me thinking. Where do I get my writing inspiration from? And here’s what I came up with. Continue reading “Five Hot Tips for Writing Inspiration”

Father’s Day Poem

A Father's Day poem from a son to his Daddy

You may have caught my Mother’s Day post, in which I apologised to my mum for a lifetime of being a bit of a selfish toad. So staying topical, I have a Father’s Day poem for you. It is from my little boy to his Daddy. Yes, he’s very advanced for a toddler, don’t you think! It’s all his own work. (So excuse the formatting – he’s just a kid!)

Here goes…

Early Signs of Pregnancy – Ultimate Guide

One of the early signs of pregnancy can be swollen breasts

I’ll let you into a little secret…. Now and again I forget to take my contraceptive pill, and all hell breaks loose. Suddenly I’m back Googling early signs of pregnancy like it’s 2014. Only this time it’s with a mild panic.

Don’t get me wrong, if we had an accidental pregnancy I’m sure we would welcome it with open arms. (Unexpected second child, if you’re reading this, Mummy and Daddy think you’re amazing! Thanks for rocking up.)

It’s just that I’m forty this year, it took us a very long time to have a successful pregnancy, and realistically my body doesn’t have a great track record at staying pregnant (you can read more about that here).

So I think it’s fair to say baby number two is not on the master plan. We are eternally grateful for the crazy little man we have, and everything feels beautifully complete. (Am I tempting fate here..!) Continue reading “Early Signs of Pregnancy – Ultimate Guide”
